Gunthak

Kejekan Fishermen in Stonebrunt
Fishing in Gunthak
A very long time ago I made the acquaintance of a young Iksar called Chtiz. He was atypical of their race; although a fighter by disposition he seems to be intrigued by some of the finer things in life and I feel it is my duty to try to educate him. Whenever I see him, I try to make the time to chat and offer him some new delicacy that I've baked. Clearly it was the latter on his mind when he rushed up to me in the Nexus and began rambling about seafood.

I'm quite fond of a fish roll myself, so I was quite happy to listen. He told me that the elves had found a safe route to Broken Skull Rock where the water was clear and unsullied and many delicacies were to be found in the rocks around the lighthouse. Obviously this appealed to my halfling love of fresh food and we agreed to journey there together and explore. A druid overheard our discussion and offered to drop us off in Stonebrunt, which was a welcome offer; I've travelled through the Warrens before and was in no hurry to repeat the experience.

Chtiz had heard there was a ship there that was offering passage to adventurers interested in the smugglers haven, so we ran to the coast. There we ran into some Kejekan fisherman and asked them for tips; however they were not particularly communicative. Luckily, there was a ship at the docks who readily agreed to transport us and we were able to travel directly to Broken Skull Rock.

I was surprised to find it teaming with merchants and explorers. My Iksar friend immediately mixed in with the crowd to get the gossip while I searched for a spot to cast my rod. There is a lovely row of stepping stones leading across the water and within minutes I was settled in, nibbling on a picnic and casting into the water.

It is a dreary place, low fog and grey waves and black rocks. But the fish, oh the fish. Almost immediately I'd caught an eel which looked perfect for grilling, quickly followed by fresh fish and a jelly fish! There were a number of rusty daggers caught in my line, I shudder to think what else is found in the depths in this pirate haven.

Chtiz joined me quickly and told me that he'd found a merchant with a fishing rod and bait, which was pleasant news. He pulled out his rod and fished but was quickly distracted by a movement in the rocks. A traveller passing by confirmed that Hermit Crabs were plentiful in these rocks and although they were too small to eat they made an excellent bait. Chtiz spent quite some time trying to catch one of the small crabs but to no avail.

The water was clearly not very deep, sea urchins regularly became tangled on my line. I'd tossed them aside to start but Chtiz told me that he'd been offered a stew made of these so I endeavoured to save them after that. Finally, my waterproof pack was full of rare delicacies; would that all the waters of Norrath were so clear and full of fish.

Chtiz found a coast surrounded by high rocks and a cave going into them. It was getting late and my bag was heavy so we agreed to leave (I suspect this place is very dangerous after dark, based on the miscreants I saw wandering freely during the day!) but I must return to these coves and explore, the marine life is incredible!
